In my figurative paintings, my motivation is to capture the essence of a subject, in a way that is constantly evolving, inviting the viewer to animate the painting by exploring it through a visual journey. I love the process of choosing, observing and interpreting a subject, and whether it is a still life, a portrait or a landscape, light, shadow, shapes, reflections, transparencies, color and movement inspire and motivate me to paint.
In my abstract paintings, the motivation comes within. They do not represent anything in particular, they are just expressions of a moment in time; a spur of energy where layers of color, texture and form come together in a spontaneous way. My intention is for the viewer to interpret and connect with the paintings with the same freedom I had in creating them.
